Honey - The Islamic Miracles and Health Benefits of Honey

Liquid Gold:
 Honey

Honey is a sweet food made by bees using nectar from flowers. Honey is one of the most amazing foods we enjoy today. Its exquisite texture, varying colors, and differentiating tastes make it truly a wonder of nature.

The Islamic Miracle and Benefits of Honey:

Honey Benefits

More than 1400 years ago Allaah and His messenger sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam told us that honey can heal a variety of medical problems.

Allaah Says: "And the Lord inspired the bee, saying: Take your habitations in the mountains and in the trees and in what they erect. Then, eat of all fruits and follow the ways of your Lord made easy (for you)'. There comes forth from their bellies a drink of varying colors wherein is healing for men. Verily in this is indeed a sign for people who think." [Quran 16:68-69]
The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam  has also told us of the healing found within honey for a variety of medical problems, including stomach ailments.

It is reported by Al-Bukhaari may Allaah have mercy upon him that a man came to the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam  because his brother had a stomach disorder. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam said: "Let him drink honey." The man returned a second time complaining that no improvement happened in his brothers case, and again the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam  responded: "Let him drink honey." The man returned again, and said: "I have done that but to no avail." Thereupon the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam  responded: "Allaah has said the truth, but your brother's stomach has told a lie. Let him drink honey." He drank it and was cured.
It is also reported that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam  said: "Make use of the two remedies: honey and the Quran." (At-Tirmithi)

Modern medicine has only recently discovered the fact that honey is a remedy to many diseases. Traditional uses of honey have included honey mixed with lemon for sore throats. Honey coats the throat and reduces throat irritation. Research has already shown that honey blocks the growth of oral bacteria.

Honey has also been used for stomach pains and problems. Modern research shows that honey is effective when used in the treatment of gastric or peptic stomach ulcers. Research has also revealed that honey is effective in the treatment of various wounds and infections because of its antimicrobial (antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal) properties.

Researchers are not absolutely sure why honey heals but they are learning new things about honey everyday. Honey contains a variety of sugars and minerals. Honey is also considered an antioxidant. This means it allows the blood to circulate better and provide more oxygen to areas of the body such as the brain.

Honey can also be used externally to promote healing when applied to wounds, even postoperative wounds. Honey has also been effective in its use to treat burns. It has even been shown to be low in calories and useful as a sweetener for diabetics, people with heart disease or those overweight.

The honey bee works endlessly to produce one of natures most prized resources for the consumption of us humans. As the ayah above states Verily this is a sign for those who give thought Allah (subhaana huwa ta'ala) has truly given us a blessing with His gift of honey. With all its properties, it is nothing short of miraculous.

Zam Zam Well - History, Facts and Blessings of Zamzam Water

Zamzam Water:

Zamzam

The Well of Zamzam is a well located within the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, 20 m (66 ft) east of the Kaaba, the holiest place in Islam. According to Islamic belief, it is a miraculously-generated source of water from God, which began thousands of years ago when Abraham's (Ibr?h?m) infant son Ishmael was thirsty and kept crying for water. Millions of pilgrims visit the well each year while performing the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimages, in order to drink its water.

How the Zamzam came into being?

Zamzam Well

All traditions agree that Allah (S.W.T) created the well to provide Hajira, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and her baby Prophet Ismail (peace be upon him) with water in the hot, dry valley they were in, around the year 2000 BC.

In her desperate search for water, Hajira ran seven times back and forth in the scorching heat between the two hills of Safa and Marwa to provide for her baby who was dying of thirst. Today, this same act is a necessary rite of Hajj pilgrimage all Muslims, mothers and fathers, must complete.

Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) settled his family there as part of Allah's mission for him. The first thing Hajira had to do then was to look for water in the area. She was searching for it while watching at her son and would run whenever she could not see Ismail. Allah (S.W.T) saw her effort and miraculously blessed the spot with a water spring, at the feet of Prophet Ismail (as).

Zamzam water: the power drink and a cure for sickness

Hadith

One of the miracles of Zamzam water is its ability to satisfy both thirst and hunger. One of the Companions of the Prophet said that before Islam, the water was called "Shabbaa'ah" or satisfying. It was filling and helped them nourish their families.

After Islam, this powerful ability to quench thirst and fill stomachs remained. Prophet Muhammad said: "The best water on the face of the earth is the water of Zamzam; it is a kind of food and a healing from sickness."

According to the Muslim collection of Hadith, Abu Dharr al-Ghifari, a Companion (Sahabi), noted that when he first arrived in Makkah during the early days of Islam, not only did he satisfy his hunger and thirst but he survived only on Zamzam water for a whole month.

More recently, in the last few decades, scientists have collected samples of Zamzam water and they have found certain peculiarities that make the water healthier, like a higher level of calcium.

Apart from its ability to serve as satisfying food and drink, Zamzam water's health benefits are also commended.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said it was a healing from sickness. This is why pilgrims to Makkah to this day collect it in bottles to bring for relatives and friends back home who are ill.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to carry Zamzam water in pitchers and water skins back to Madinah. He used to sprinkle it over the sick and make them drink it.

Wahab Ibn Munabbah,, said 'I swear by Him in whose possession my life is, Allah Ta'ala will relieve the person of all illnesses who drinks Zamzam to his fill and will also grant him good health.'

Zamzam water and Hajj pilgrimage:

Zamzam

During Hajj and Umra, pilgrims are recommended to drink Zamzam water to their fill to quench their thirst. They also continue the tradition of bringing it back for family and friends.

The Companions of the Cave - Islamic Story

Allah's promise of goodness and mercy to those who have complete faith in Him and who serve Him truly is exemplified in the story of the companions of the cave . In A.D. seven young men of the city of Ephesus (near the western coast of Turkey) accepted the teachings of the Prophet Isa (A.S). But at that time the king Daqyanus (Decius), the ruler of Roman Empire, was an unbeliever and killed those who believed in the message of the Prophet Isa (A.S), to worship Allah. Very courageously these men continued to preach the message of the one and only God. When the king's soldier were about to capture them, they were guided by Allah to take refuge in a dark cave in the mountains outside the town. Once in the safety of the, they prayed, "Lord, have mercy on us and guide us through our ordeal."(18:10)

cave

Allah made them sleep in the cave for many years. All the while their faithful dog too lay in slumber with its legs stretched across the entrance of the cave, in the same pose he might have assumed when guarding them from harm. Allah is All-Powerful. Even time works in accordance with His will. The world around them change as about 300 years passed, but they stayed the same, as Allah desired them to, The cruel king Daqyanus had died, and most of his empire had by now accepted the message of the Prophet Isa (A.S) and believed in one God. The present king, Theodosius II, was also a believer. Life changes, nothing remains the same forever.

When the appointed hour came, they rose from their sleep. They looked around, feeling a little lost, and began questioning each other in astonishment. "How long have you been her" asked one. "A day, or maybe just few hours." replied another. "Your Lord knows best how long you have stayed here,: said the third. "Let one of you go to the city with silver coin and bring back any wholesome food he finds there. But be cautious, and don't tell anybody about this cave or us. If they capture you, they will stone you to death, or make you renounce your faith." The young men did not know that they had passed more than 300 years in the cave in deep sleep and world had completely changed.

old Town

But when the young man gave coin to the shopkeeper, he stared at him in amazement: the coin was ancient and no longer in use. He thought that the young man must have found a hidden treasure. The news of a young man with an ancient coin spread like wildfire in the market, then all over town, and finally reached the king. The young man realized that centuries must have passed since the time he and his companions escaped from this town. The people thought it a miracle that Allah had saved then in such a stranger way. They would not let him go till he led them to the cave and his companions. The king, too, arrived to seek blessings. When the young men died, a shrine was built at the cave as a memorial to them.

Allah can change the situation before we are aware, and our hope in His is no futile, and even when we are on the brink of despair, a change is surely working in the world before the world itself realizes it.

Miracles & Scientific Proofs of Islam - Miracles of Quran and Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H)

Miracles Of Islam

Name of Allah On Stone Islamic miracles

The Holy Qur'an

Holy Quran

The Quran  is the holy scripture of Muslims. The Quran states that the name of God's religion is Islam and it refers to its followers as Muslims.

The Quran (Koran) started to be revealed by God to Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) through arch-angel Gabriel, when he was 40 years old, around year 610 AD. It was revealed gradually, few verses at a time, over a period of about 23 years. The Quran is a very unique book that differs from the Bible in many ways. Unlike the Bible which supposedly contains the sayings of Jesus and other writings which Christians believe were inspired by God, the Quran is the "literal" word of God. We mean that the words in the Quran are the exact words of God. Therefore, the author of the Quran is God himself. Furthermore, also unlike the Bible, the Quran does not contain the sayings of Prophet Mohammad, nor does it contain an account of Prophet Mohammad's life.

God in the Quran (Koran) promises clearly to protect the Quran from corruption. Indeed, God has protected the Quran. The Quran has remained the same. All the verses that were revealed to prophet Mohammad by angel Gabriel are included in the Quran that is available today.

The Quran states that the Quran, in by itself, is the most important miracle that Prophet Mohammad has brought to humanity. Since Prophet Mohammad was intended to be the last prophet and the Quran was the last message, God decided to give people a unique miracle that can be examined and experienced by not only people who lived at the time of the prophet, but for the hundreds of years to come. So, it was natural for God to choose Quran to be such a miracle.

That is why the Arabic Quran (Koran) is a unique miracle. The only book in the world authored by God himself, word by word, and that is still available today in its original form. People throughout the Ages have wondered whether they can see God or something that can be attributed directly to God. The Quran is the answer. It is available today for all humans to experience how God expresses himself in words. The Quran is a book of knowledge with a uniquely captivating style, in which every verse is a sign from God. Each word used in the Arabic Quran was uniquely chosen by God for a purpose. You can not add or subtract a word to/from the Quran, without the corruption becoming noticeable. Scholars have discovered some  hidden logic structures (codes) in the Quran that prove its authenticity and help in protecting its integrity from corruption.

The Quran (Koran) contains lots of scientific knowledge, from various fields such as astronomy, geology, medicine, embryology, etc., that have only been known recently which were totally unknown and could not have been discovered at the time of prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H).

Allah has said in the Quran:

Or (the unbelievers state) is like the darkness in a deep sea.  It is covered by waves, above which are waves, above which are clouds.  Darknesses, one above another.  If a man stretches out his hand, he cannot see it.... (Quran 24:40)

This verse mentions the darkness found in deep seas and oceans, where if a man stretches out his hand, he cannot see it.  The darkness in deep seas and oceans is found around a depth of 200 meters and below.  At this depth, there is almost no light (see figure 1).  Below a depth of 1000 meters there is no light at all.[1]  Human beings are not able to dive more than forty meters without the aid of submarines or special equipment.  Human beings cannot survive unaided in the deep dark part of the oceans, such as at a depth of 200 meters.

The  Miracles Of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H)

Prophet Muhammad

1. Miraj - Night Journey to Jerusalem and then to Heaven

Another great miracle is Israa & Miraj which is Prophet Mohammad's journey overnight from Mecca to Jerusalem and then to Heaven. He met with all the previous prophets, including Jesus & Moses, and he had the honor of being chosen as the leader of a prayer that was attended by all prophets.

Narrated by Ibn Abbas, in Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 4, Book 54, Number 462:

The Prophet said, "On the night of my Ascent (Miraj) to Heaven, I saw Moses who was a tall, brown, curly-haired man as if he was one of the men of Shan'awa tribe, and I saw Jesus, a man of medium height and fair complexion inclined to the red and white colors and of lank hair. I also saw Malik, the gate-keeper of the (Hell) Fire and the Ad-Dajjal (Anti-Christ) amongst the signs which Allah showed me." (The Prophet then recited the Quranic Verse): "So be not you in doubt of meeting him' when you met Moses during the night of Mi'raj (ascent) to the heavens" (Quran 32:23)

2. Splitting of the Moon

The unbelievers asked Prophet Mohammad (s.a.a.w.s) for physical miracle, so he split the moon, by the will of God, into two haves by a gesture of his index finger. One half of the moon appeared behind a mountain and the other one in front of it. For detailed analysis of the Moon Splitting miracle, click here.

3. Spider's Web

After he fled Mecca, his enemies went after him. So, he, and his closest companion Abu Bakr, hid in a cave. He enemies reached the opening of the cave, but the enemies did not enter the cave because they noticed a spiders web covering the opening of the cave, so they thought that it was impossible for Mohammad to have entered that cave. This miracle is mentioned in the Quran.

 4. Food Multiplication

Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 4, Book 56, Number 780:

Narrated by Jabir:

My father died in debt. So I came to the Prophet and said, "My father left unpaid debts, and I have nothing (to pay back the debt), except the yield of his Date Palm Trees; and their yield for many years will not cover his debt. So please come with me (to meet the creditors), so that the creditors may not misbehave with me." The Prophet went around one of the heaps of dates and invoked (Allahs) blessings, and then did the same with another heap and sat on it and said, "Weigh (the dates)." He (Prophet Mohammad) paid them (the debtors) what they were entitled to and what remained was as much as had been paid to them.

 5. Water Multiplication

Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 4, Book 56, Number 779:

Narrated by Abdullah:

Once we were with Allah's Messenger (Prophet Mohammad) on a journey, and we ran short of water. He said, "Bring the water remaining with you." The people brought a container which had little water left. He placed his hand in it and said, "Come to the blessed water, and the Blessing is from Allah." I saw the water flowing from among the fingers of Allah's Messenger, and no doubt, we heard the meal glorifying Allah, when it was being eaten (by him).

Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 4, Book 56, Number 777:

Narrated by Al-Bara:

We were one-thousand-and-four-hundred (1400) persons on the day of Al-Hudaibiya (Treaty). (At) Al-Hudaibiya, (there) was a well. We drew out its water, not leaving even a single drop. The Prophet sat at the edge of the well and asked for some water, with which he rinsed his mouth. Then he threw it out into the well. We stayed for a short while. Then, we drew water from the well and quenched our thirst.  Even our riding animals drank water to their satisfaction.

 Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 1, Book 7, Number 340:

Narrated by Imran:

Once we were traveling with the Prophet . After he (Prophet Mohammad) finished the prayer, he saw a man sitting alone who had not prayed with the people. He asked, "O so and so! What has prevented you from praying with us?" He replied, "I am Junub (impure because he ejaculated semen, usually involuntarily during sleep) and there is no water. " The Prophet said, "Perform Tayammum with (clean) earth and that is sufficient for you."

Then the Prophet proceeded on and the people complained to him of thirst. Thereupon, he (the Prophet) got down and called a person (the narrator 'Auf added that Abu Raja' had named him but he forgot his name) and 'Ali, and ordered them to go and bring water.

So, they went in search of water and met a woman who was sitting on her camel between two bags of water. They asked, "Where can we find water?" She replied, "I was there (at the place of water) this hour yesterday and my people are behind me."

They requested from her to accompany them. She asked, "Where?" They said, "To Allah's Messenger." She said, "Do you mean the man who is called the Sabi, (with a new religion)?" They replied, "Yes, the same person, so come along."

They brought her to the Prophet and narrated the whole story. He said, "Help her to dismount." The Prophet asked for a pot, then he opened the mouths of the water bags and poured some water into the pot. Then he closed the big openings of the bags and opened the small ones and the people were called upon to drink and water their animals. So they all watered their animals and they (too) all quenched their thirst and also gave water to others and last of all, the Prophet gave a pot full of water to the person who was Junub and told him to pour it over his body.

The woman was standing and watching all what they were doing with her water. By Allah, when her water bags were returned, they seemed to be more full (of water) than they had been before (Miracle of Allah's Messenger).

Then, the Prophet ordered us to collect something for her; so dates, flour and Sawiq were collected which amounted to a good meal that was put in a piece of cloth. She was helped to ride on her camel and that cloth full of food-stuff was also placed in front of her and then the Prophet said to her, "We have not taken your water, but Allah has given water to us."

She returned home late. Her relatives asked her: "O so and so what has delayed you?" She said, "A strange thing! Two men met me and took me to the man who is called the Sabi' and he did such and such a thing. By Allah, he is either the greatest magician between this and this (gesturing with her index and middle fingers raising them towards the sky, indicating the heaven and the earth) or he is Allah's true Messenger."

Afterwards the Muslims used to attack the pagans around her abode, but never touched her village. One day she said to her people, "I think that these people leave you purposely. Have you got any inclination to Islam?" They obeyed her and all of them embraced Islam.

Abul 'Ailya said, "The Sabis are a sect of people of the Scripture who recite the Book of Psalms."

 6. Supplication for Rain

Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 115:

Narrated by Anas bin Malik:

A man came to the Prophet on a Friday, while he (the Prophet) was delivering a sermon in Medina, and said, "There is lack of rain, so please invoke your Lord to bless us with rain." The Prophet looked at the sky when no cloud could be detected. Then, he invoked Allah for rain. Clouds started gathering together and it rained till the Medina valleys started flowing with water. It continued raining till the next Friday. Then, that man (or some other man) stood up while the Prophet was delivering the Friday sermon, and said, "We are drowned; Please invoke your Lord to withhold it (rain) from us." The Prophet smiled and said twice or thrice, "O Allah! Please let it rain around us and not upon us." The clouds started dispersing over Medina to the right and to the left, and it rained around Medina and not upon Medina. Allah showed them (the people) the miracle of His Prophet and His response to his invocation.

 7. Lights to Guide Prophet Mohammads Companions

Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 1, Book 8, Number 454:

Narrated by Anas bin Malik:

Once, on a dark night, two of the companions of the Prophet departed (after a meeting with the prophet) and were led by two lights like lamps (from the sky) lighting the road in front of them. And, when they parted (from each other), each of them was accompanied by one of these lights till he reached his house.

 8. Crying of the Trunk of the Date Palm Tree

Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 4, Book 56, Number 783:

Narrated by Ibn Umar:

The Prophet used to deliver his sermons while standing beside (or leaning on) a trunk of a Date Palm tree. When he had the pulpit made, he used it (the pulpit) instead (of the Date Palm tree). The trunk (of the tree) started crying/weeping (grieving out of love for the prophet) and the Prophet approached it, rubbing his hand over it (to sooth it and stop its crying/weeping).

9. A Wolf Speaks and Recognizes Mohammad as of a Messenger of Allah

Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 3, Book 39, Number 517:

Narrated by Unais bin 'Amr:

Ahban bin Aus said, "I was amongst my sheep. Suddenly a wolf caught a sheep and I screamed at it (the wolf). The wolf sat on its tail and addressed me, saying, 'Who will look after it (i.e. the sheep) when you are busy and not able to look after it? Do you forbid me the provision which Allah has provided me?' Ahban added, "I clapped my hands and said, 'By Allah, I have never seen anything more interesting and wonderful than this!' On that, the wolf said, 'There is something more (interesting and) wonderful than this; that is, Allah's Messenger inviting people to Allah (i.e. Islam).' "Unais bin 'Amr added, "Then Ahban went to Allah's Messenger and informed him what happened and embraced Islam.)"
